Of the village, the squat square tower, dating from around the 11th century, and, above all, the parish church of Sant’Ilario, dating from the 15th century, with its massive bell tower and mullioned windows with two-light openings, can be admired. Inside the church, the high altar, dating from the Baroque period, is also worth seeing, as well as some frescoes from the end of the 15th century. In Gignod on the penultimate Sunday in August, the ‘Fête du Teteun’ is held, a gastronomic event where tourists and valley dwellers alike can enjoy a curious local dish, the udder of a cow, which is skilfully processed and served sliced. But Gignod is also the Valle d’Aosta capital of ‘Pétanque’, a variety of the game of boules typical of French-speaking countries: in August, competitions are held through the characteristic streets of the village.
